These powerpoints are good but they are old and out of date and not as good as the heavily modified ones we uses in class. These were used a number of times however, they were all heavily changed and updated and I only used them part of the time. They do however offer lectures on just about the entire course of APHG. "I strongly believe that the Hooters concept is something that Israelis are looking for," Ofer Ahiraz, who bought the Hooters franchise for Israel, told Reuters Monday. "Hooters can suit the Israeli entertainment culture."

At Hooters, waitresses the company calls Hooters Girls serve spicy chicken wings, sandwiches, seafood and drinks.

Ahiraz said a specific location in Tel Aviv, Israel's most cosmopolitan city, had yet to be chosen, but he said it would not open restaurants near large religious populations, and they would not be kosher.

He said his plan was to open as many as five Hooters restaurants in the next few years, including one in the southern resort city of Eilat.

The Tel Aviv version of Hooters is expected to mimic most of the chain's other 430 restaurants in the United States and in 23 countries including China, Switzerland, Australia and Brazil.

Ahiraz said, however, he expected some minor modifications to meet Israeli tastes since U.S. chains have had a mixed response in Israel.
Food chains such as Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts and Hard Rock Cafe failed, Kentucky Fried Chicken closed many locations, while others such as Burger King and McDonalds have thrived by altering their offerings to suit the Israeli market.

"It shows that if you are flexible and listen to your customers you can be a success story," Ahiraz said.

The opening of Hooters in Israel is part of the chain's global expansion. Privately held Hooters said it planned to open 17 restaurants in Colombia, Dubai, Guam, New Zealand and India in the next two years.

"International expansion is a major focus for our company, and we are very excited to add Israel to our family," John Weber, executive vice president of franchise operations for Hooters of America, said in a statement.

Heavy Metal in Baghdad

Nobody ever thinks of this or have not realized it but much like the Industrial revolution, Heavy Metak began in England with the emergence of Black Sabbath. Since then, it has evolved and diffused to many parts of the world. In a way it has some basic ideas of popular culture. Heavy Metal certainly does not try to appeal to everybody but you do not have to be a certain ethnicity to play or listen to it. Of course though, Heavy Metal is seen as Western music but in the sense that it is dark and evil. Acrassicauda is the only band in Iraq that play Metal, and are really risking their lives in trying to play shows in a country populated by Arab nationalists that greatly oppose American pop culture. This is the first part of a 5 part short documentary on Acrassicauda and the situation in Baghdad. I thought this was interesting since you never hear about Metal, much less Death/Thrash Metal in the Middle East, but it exists. You are a city planner who is currently planning the world’s most perfect city. You have been assigned to assess the pros and cons of some of the world’s most influential cities in order to better understand what you need to form your perfect city. Your city can be located anywhere and can be organized in any way you believe is best. Remember, your city must include all of the most advantageous elements possible.

You will conduct a comparative analysis of the three major world cities listed above. Follow the directions and use the provided websites below to help you find the necessary information needed to assess what your city MUST have and what your city MUST NOT have. You will provide a geographical analysis of each of these existing cities and then showcase YOUR perfect city.

The Steps

1. Describe one city. You must describe it in terms of the development of its services (418-430), its statistical information (442-444) and any other one issue from chapters 12 or 13. You must include information from the pages listed in your answer. 2 paragraphs

2. Identify the site and the situation of each city. That is how does the city's location relate to its geographic features and then how does it relate to surrounding areas. Be sure to vocabulary terms terms when answering the question. 1 paragraph

3. Explain how a city model, theory or concept applies to one city. make sure to include how that theory applies well and where the weakness might lie. You must use specific information about your concept. You must fully explain your concept. You must include other vocabulary from this chapter in your answer. 2-3 paragraphs

Things to think about when making your city

First off, feel free to use the information found in the national geographic website. You could add to that by looking at what wikipedia has to offer on urban sprawl and new urbanism. You can also check out newurbanism.org. But that should only help you for part of the way. You can also think about whether or not your city should be a post-industrial city or not. Recall what job sectors are out there and how a city that was post-industrial would differ from an industrial city. Look at the city models in the chapter and then create your own model based off of those ideas. There is no reason why you have to have just one picture. You could have one design which shows where the differing jobs sectors are within your city. You could have another design to show the street layout and then another to show how the housing, business or other areas are designed. Also think about the Central Place Theory. How would that effect where you would set things up? Is this a small town near a city or a large suburb on the outskirts of a major city or is this a major city in and of itself. How would you deal with the issue of gentrification? How do you ensure that you have a variety of people from a variety of income level groups or is that what you want? How would you set up your city services (police, fire, etc)? Do you want to encourage people to meet in some sort of town center? Will you have public transportation or not? In what type of country do you want to put your city? Do you want to have a gated community within your area and why? How would you set up the streets? Do you want alleys like here? Would you allow rail lines into the city center? Where would you have factories or will you have any at all? Will your city have multiple nuclei's? Will you have bike paths, a beach or parks or a town center, or a center for shopping and restaurants? Did your city have a problem in the past with redlining or blockbusting and how has the effected it? Just look at the concepts in the chapter and think about the ideas there and allow that to take you in a variety of directions and then feel free to add some ideas of your own. You are a city planner who is currently planning the world’s most perfect city. You have been assigned to assess the pros and cons of some of the world’s most influential cities in order to better understand what you need to form your perfect city. Your city can be located anywhere and can be organized in any way you believe is best. Remember, your city must include all of the most advantageous elements possible.

You will conduct a comparative analysis of the three major world cities listed above. Follow the directions and use the provided websites below to help you find the necessary information needed to assess what your city MUST have and what your city MUST NOT have. You will provide a geographical analysis of each of these existing cities and then showcase YOUR perfect city.

The Steps

1. Describe one city. You must describe it in terms of the development of its services (418-430), its statistical information (442-444) and any other one issue from chapters 12 or 13. You must include information from the pages listed in your answer. 2 paragraphs

2. Identify the site and the situation of each city. That is how does the city's location relate to its geographic features and then how does it relate to surrounding areas. Be sure to vocabulary terms terms when answering the question. 1 paragraph

3. Explain how a city model, theory or concept applies to one city. make sure to include how that theory applies well and where the weakness might lie. You must use specific information about your concept. You must fully explain your concept. You must include other vocabulary from this chapter in your answer. 2-3 paragraphs

4. Draw your perfect city! Include all of the issues you analyzed and include the following terms in relation to your perfect city. In addition to your drawing, you should also include a key and explanation of your choices. 3-4 paragraphs

Paragraphs usually have 7 to 11 sentences in them.

Also, please start looking at the assignments earlier and asking us questions earlier. You cannot rely on us to answer questions one or maybe even two days before. Ask questions in class. You do not have to do the assignments but you could glance over them and ask questions sooner.
