Uneven development: refers to the way in which some countries develop but the development does not happen throughout the entire country. In India the south and the cities have developed quite quickly and have made rapid economic gains while the northern rural areas have fallen behind and are some of the world's poorest areas. In China, the cities near the coast have developed rapidly while the interior has remained poor. Uneven development has hit India harder than China. In most countries where this occurs, the city areas are developing and do trade with countries that are developed while the hinterland areas within their own countries have not so these rural areas stay depressed and more and more people flock towards the cities.

time-space compression Time-space compression often refers to technologies that seem to accelerate or elide spatial and temporal distances, including technologies of communication (telegraph, telephones, fax machines, Internet), travel (rail, cars, trains, jets) and economics(the need to overcome spatial barriers, open up new markets, speed up production cycles, and reduce the turn-over time of capital).
