An agricultural manager who owns one or several farms but does not have a residence on any of them. One defiition says it is a farmer who lives thirty miles or more away from his farm. Owning several farms in several areas is a way to hedge against a natural hazard destroying all of your crops. These fields can also be diversified which means that market fluctuations are less likely to affect this type of farmer. This is associated with agribusiness and quite often these farmers travel to their farms only during key times of the season. The wheat belt is aligned to go along iwth suitcase farming.
