Multiple Choice - Exam is online - 7 good hints

The exam is at the bottom of the handouts page. I am also putting up some other practive MC questions which might be helpful to try. It is from another text and phrases questions differently so that might help you.

Hints

1. Remember all of the things we said about how this part works. You get 1/4th of a point deducted from your correct answers for each incorrect guess. So if you get your choices down to two or three within a question then you can guess but if you have no clue, leave it alone.


2. If there are two good answers CHOOSE THE ONE THAT FITS BEST. The question about religion and conflict asks you which is likely to cause a fight. Strongly Differing religions may cause a fight but countries that are also havign a border dispute fits better. DISPUTE means conflict and that works better. Some of these questions are about logic.

3. STUDY YOUR VOCABULARY

4. STUDY THE CHARTS AND DIAGRAMS WE USE IN CLASS AND ThOSE IN THE TEXT. It is highly likley that they will ask you how certai ncharts and graphs work.

5. LOOK OVER YOUR EXAM AGAIN. You will have lots of time for this so do it. A second look (after having seen other questions) may help you to get the correct answer. Do not be lazy on this. You can get college credit here so it ony makes sense to work as hard as possible.

6. Remember the exam we saw got harder as it went on so expect that. The last questions may be the hardest. Do not worry if you start to feel like the exam is getting really tough and you are not getting some in the end. The exam is designed that way. This is why it is a good idea to go over the earlier questions again. You may get those and the harder questions might make sense at a second glance.

7. EXAMINE THE BEST, MOST, LEAST AND WORST AND THE UNUSUALS of the various topics we have gone over. The exam asks questions like which area of the world is the most urban or the most rural or which area is the best example of this model or which area does not exemplify a certain idea. They tend to use the more obvious examples so study the obvious examples. It is not a bad idea to know the things that stick out like the fact that Eastern Europe has had a decline in its human development index. That is unusual and they expect you to know the mosts, leasts and the unusuals.
